Fear Not – Faith Trusts the Authority of Jesus

The centurion’s words reveal one of the most beautiful pictures of faith in the Gospels. He did not ask Jesus to come to his house. He did not ask for a special sign. He did not demand visible proof. Instead, he believed that a single word from Jesus was enough.

This man understood authority. As a military officer, he knew that when a commander gave an order, it was carried out. Therefore he recognized that sickness itself was subject to the authority of Christ. If Jesus spoke, the situation had to obey.

“For I also am a man placed under authority, having under myself soldiers. I tell this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes.”

Many people think faith is trying harder, feeling stronger, or having no doubts. Yet biblical faith is often much simpler: it is trusting that Jesus means what He says. The centurion rested not in his own worthiness but in Christ’s authority.

Notice his humility. He said that he was not worthy to come to Jesus. True faith is not confidence in ourselves; it is confidence in the Lord. We do not approach God because we deserve His help. We approach Him because He is gracious and powerful.

“Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.”

The centurion believed before he saw any evidence. He trusted the word of Jesus before the miracle became visible. That is the kind of faith that pleases God.

“He sends his word, and heals them, and delivers them from their graves.”

When Jesus speaks, His word carries power. His promises are not empty statements; they accomplish what He intends. The same Lord who healed the servant by His word still rules today.

🙌 Therefore: Fear not — the authority of Jesus is greater than every sickness, every problem, and every obstacle, and one word from Him is enough to change everything.
