🕊️ Do Not Fear — Put Off the Old Self

📖 Colossians 3:8–9 “But now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth. Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings.”

Paul reminds us here that a life with Christ does not only mean receiving something new, but also letting go of what is old. Through faith in Jesus, we have become new people. Therefore, the behavior of our former life no longer fits our new identity.

Anger, bitterness, malice, hurtful words, and lies destroy relationships and rob us of peace. They belong to the life we lived without Christ. God does not ask us to overcome these things by our own strength. Instead, He reminds us that the old self has already died with Christ. Because we have a new identity, we are also free to live a new life.

đź“– 2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.”

Putting off the old self is a daily decision. Again and again, we are faced with the choice of giving in to our old reactions or allowing the Holy Spirit to work in us. The more room we give Christ, the more His love will shape our thoughts, our words, and our actions.

Our words, in particular, carry great power. With them we can build up or tear down, give hope or cause pain. That is why God does not only want to change our actions, but also our hearts, because our words flow out of what fills the heart.

đź“– Ephesians 4:29
“Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

You do not have to hold on to your old life. In Christ, you are free to live differently. Every day, God gives you the strength to put off the old self and live in the new identity He has given you.

🙌 Therefore: Do not fear — you are no longer the old person. In Christ, you have received a new life.
