🕊️ Fear Not — Forgiveness Sets You Free

📖 Luke 17:4 “If he sins against you seven times in the day, and seven times returns, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.” 📖 Luke 17:4 “If he sins against you seven times in the day, and seven times returns, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.”

Yesterday we ended with the thought that where you let go, God can begin to restore your heart. This is where one of the greatest truths about forgiveness is found: it does not only change the relationship with the person who hurt you — above all, it changes your own heart.

Forgiveness does not mean that what happened never took place. Nor does it mean that wrongdoing suddenly becomes right or that every relationship must be restored. Forgiveness means that the wounds within us are allowed to begin healing.

The Greek word ἴασις (iasis [ee-AH-sis]) means healing or restoration. God does not only want to forgive our guilt, but also to heal the wounds that others have left in our hearts.

📖 Psalm 147:3

“He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.”

At first, the memory may still hurt deeply. Perhaps tears still come, perhaps the pain rises to the surface again and again. But every time you choose to forgive, that pain loses a little more of its power. Eventually, you realize that you can still remember what happened, but it no longer controls your heart.

That is what God’s healing looks like. The memory may remain, but the wound loses its pain. What once held you captive no longer has power over you. An open wound becomes a scar — and even that scar becomes a testimony that God carried you and restored you.

📖 Isaiah 61:1

“The Lord has sent me to preach good news to the humble, to bind up the brokenhearted, and to proclaim liberty to the captives.”

If you are still struggling with a deep wound today, do not lose heart. Healing often happens step by step. Every step of obedience and every decision to forgive gives God room to work more deeply in your heart. He does not pressure you, but lovingly walks with you along this path until pain becomes peace and sorrow gives way to new hope.

🙌 Therefore: Fear not — God does not expect you to heal your wounds by yourself. He simply asks you to entrust them to Him. Where you are willing to let go, He begins His healing work. He does not only lift the pain from your shoulders, but transforms your heart until what once wounded you no longer has power over your life.
