🕊️ Do Not Fear — James 4:7 - Part 9

Three short statements. Three clear steps. And yet we often try to change this very order. We focus on spiritual warfare, look for greater authority, or wonder why we are not experiencing victories. But James shows us a different way.

The verse does not begin with the devil. It begins with God.

This order is crucial. First comes our relationship with God. From this comes the authority to resist the enemy. Only then follows the promise that the devil must flee.

James does not give suggestions here, but clear commands and an equally clear promise. When we honor God’s order, we can also expect God to work.

We find this principle already in the Old Testament. When Israel obeyed God, the Lord Himself fought for His people.

📖 Exodus 14:14
“Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still.”

Jesus also made it clear what must always come first.

📖 Matthew 6:33
“But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Notice the word “first.” God does not ask us merely to give Him a place in our lives. He wants to have first place. Only when He is there does everything else fall into its proper order.

Many defeats do not begin because the devil has become stronger, but because we turn our eyes away from Christ and toward the enemy. But the enemy does not deserve our attention—Jesus does.

When our hearts remain focused on the Lord, we recognize the enemy, but we do not become preoccupied with him. Our strength does not lie in watching Satan, but in following Christ.

Perhaps lately you have been thinking more about your battles than about your Savior. Then God invites you today to fix your eyes on Jesus again. Where He has first place, the enemy loses his influence. A heart focused on Christ lives in His peace and in His strength.

🙌 Therefore: Do not fear—fix your eyes first on Christ, and every other battle will find its proper place.
