🕊️ Do Not Fear — James 4:7 - Part 8

The Enemy Knows His Defeat 📖 James 4:7 “Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

If the devil is already defeated, why does he still attack Christians? The Bible gives us the answer: He knows his defeat.He knows that his end is certain. That is precisely why he tries to draw as many people as possible away from Jesus through fear, lies, and deception.

“The devil has gone down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has but a short time.”

Satan does not fight because he can win. He fights because he has already lost. His attacks do not come from his strength, but from his desperation. He knows that Christ defeated him at the cross and that his final judgment is coming.

That is why Peter writes:

📖 1 Peter 5:8–9
“Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Withstand him steadfast in your faith…”

Notice the little word “like.” Peter does not say that Satan is a lion. He walks around like a roaring lion. His roar is intended to intimidate. He wants to create fear, sow doubt, and give the impression that he has more power than he actually possesses.

But the Bible knows only one true lion.

“Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome.”

Jesus Christ is the Lion of Judah. He does not need to roar to prove His authority. He has already overcome. His victory is certain. While Satan merely tries to spread fear, Christ reigns with all authority in heaven and on earth.

That is why Peter calls us to resist the enemy “steadfast in your faith.” The enemy’s roar does not determine the outcome of the battle; the finished work of Jesus does. Whoever looks to Christ recognizes that Satan’s loudest threats can never be greater than the authority of the risen Lord.

Perhaps the enemy’s roar sometimes seems loud to you. But do not let his voice determine your life. Fix your eyes on Jesus Christ, the Lion of the tribe of Judah. His victory is greater than every intimidation, and His reign will never end.

🙌 Therefore: Do not fear—the enemy may roar, but only Jesus Christ is the victorious Lion of Judah.
