🕊️ Do Not Fear — James 4:7 - Part 7

James makes an astonishing statement here. He does not say: “Perhaps the devil will flee.” Nor does he say: “Sometimes he will flee.” God’s Word speaks with certainty: “…he will flee from you.”

The Greek word for “flee” is φεύγω (pheúgō, FYOO-go) — to flee. It means to flee, take flight, run away, or escape. It does not describe an orderly retreat, but someone leaving a place quickly because he cannot remain there.

But why must the devil flee?

Not because we are strong. Not because we are especially spiritual. Not because we pray loudly enough.

He flees because we stand under the authority of Jesus Christ.

Even during His earthly ministry, Jesus demonstrated His complete authority over Satan and the powers of darkness. Demons had to leave, not because they wanted to, but because they could not stand against the authority of the Son of God.

📖 Mark 1:27

“They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, ‘What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!’”

After His death and resurrection, Jesus declared:

📖 Matthew 28:18

“Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.’”

Notice: Jesus says all authority. There is no power outside His dominion. Therefore, we do not resist the enemy in our own name, but in the name of the One who already possesses all authority.

That is why John could write:

📖 1 John 4:4

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.”

The devil knows very well that he is defeated. He already knows the end. Therefore, he does not try to defeat Christ—he cannot. Instead, he tries to intimidate Christians and make them believe that they have no authority. But his intimidation loses its power when we recognize who Christ is and who we are in Him.

Perhaps the enemy’s attacks sometimes appear greater than they actually are. But God’s Word reminds you today: Victory does not depend on your strength, but on the authority of Jesus. Remain under His rule, resist in faith, and trust His Word. The enemy cannot remain where Christ reigns.

🙌 Therefore: Do not fear—the enemy must give way because Jesus possesses all authority.
