🕊️ Do Not Fear — James 4:7 - Part 5

After James tells us to resist the devil, it is worth asking: Who is the devil actually? Because only when we know his strategy can we resist it.

The Greek word for “devil” is διάβολος (diábolos, dee-AB-o-los). It means slanderer, accuser, or false accuser. The word is made up of διά (diá) — “through, apart” — and βάλλω (bállō, BAL-lo) — “to throw.” Literally, it describes someone who throws things or people apart in order to cause division, distrust, and destruction.

This is exactly Satan’s nature. Jesus said about him:

📖 John 8:44

“He is a liar, and the father of lies.”

The devil does not win his battles through greater power, but through deception. Even in the Garden of Eden, he did not begin with violence, but with a question:

📖 Genesis 3:1

“Has God really said…?”

He did not attack mankind first, but God’s Word. His strategy has not changed to this day. He tries to sow doubt, question God’s character, and lead people away from the truth. He whispers: “God does not really have your best interests at heart. You are not truly forgiven. God has forgotten you. You will never change.”

But Jesus responded to every temptation with the same answer:

📖 Matthew 4:4

“It is written…”

The Lord did not debate with Satan. He did not argue with His feelings. He confronted the lie with the truth of God’s Word.

Therefore, spiritual resistance does not mean entering into long conversations with the enemy, but consistently replacing his lies with God’s truth. Where God’s truth is believed, Satan’s accusations lose their power.

Perhaps you keep hearing the same discouraging thoughts. Test them against the Word of God. Not every voice you hear speaks the truth. God’s voice always leads into freedom, while the voice of the accuser brings fear, condemnation, and doubt.

🙌 Therefore: Do not fear — God’s truth is stronger than every lie of the enemy.
